Miyazaki Surf Hostel
Overall Rating Owner Login to claim this accommodation Contact Details If you are looking for waves, this is the place. Miyazaki is not the only place to surf in Japan but it is one of the best, thanks to the typhoons that swing by between July and October every year, bringing waves to the many beaches, reefs and river mouths that line Miyazaki’s coastline. There is a thriving surf scene in Miyazaki complete with surf shops and contests; the water’s warm and Japanese surfers are some of the friendliest on the planet – which is a welcome change from the aggressive crowds at some of the world’s better known surf destinations and adds considerably to the area’s relaxed vibe (from Backpacker Essentials ) This Youth Hostel is in the center of Miyazaki city and is the best place as a relay point of travelling. The Horikiri Pass is within 1 hour by bus where you can see a strikingly beautiful sea. Ayanoteruha large suspension bridge is 142 meters high which is the highest in the world and 250 meters long. Surf Spots
Miyazakis exposed location on the southeastern seaboard of the western island of Kyushu has its pros and its cons. Open to swell from all directions except west; it’s possible to find waves virtually all year round. It invariably receives swell from typhoons, even those that veer off west toward Taiwan, Korea or China. Most of the breaks here have power too - something Japans surf is often cited as lacking in (from Outdoor Japan ).
