Zoco Surf Camp, Aourir (Banana Village)
Overall Rating Owner Modern, airy apartments with swimming pool & views of banana valley and beach. Traditional Amazigh village where locals still come down from the surrounding mountains to visit the weekly Souk (marketplace). The village is a great example of the way morocco has managed to integrate modern life styles with tradition. The main road is littered with Banana stalls (this is how Aourir became known as Banana Village) but also a bank, ATM machine, bakery, modern supermarket and even an internet cafe. All within walking distance. Surfing: It's a 10 minute walk to 3 different spots: looking toward the beach from the roof terrace, you have Banana Point to your right and the (oddly named) 11th and 12th to your left. The Banana Village surf crew offer surfing lessons, courses and coaching for all levels of ability from complete beginners to surfers needing a little competition training. Surfing lessons are generally 4 hours per day, in two sessions with a break for lunch & you will surf at a spot suited to your skill level. Beginners: Full beginner surf course with 4 hours of surfing tuition per day. Who's it for? The Aourir surf camp is ideal for younger people, slightly more adventurous travellers and couples. The right hand point breaks in Morocco have to be seen to be believed. We all know that as surfers we tend to exaggerate (a little) when relating our surf adventures but this is one country where there is no need for exaggeration, there are endless walling, tubing, spitting right handers that fire for weeks at a time and deliver some of the longest rides and tubes imaginable. The coastline around the Agadir area is riddled with spots. If you are struggling to get waves in a crowded lineup move a few hundred feet up or down the coast and you'll find good quality empty waves. If you don't find an empty, good quality wave to surf here, you are either blind or lazy or both.
