Just got back from Florianopolis, Brazil. Had a great time staying with Nexus Surf. They provide great accomodations, guides day and night. Nightlife is better than any surf destination I've been to, which made early sessions pretty tough! Solid surf spots in front of accomodations (Praia Mole and Galheta) are great options, or for fast, superfun barrels, Joaquina is about 3 minutes by car. Tons of variety of backdroups throughout the island, but most of the waves are powerful beachbreaks. That said, there are a few mellow spots (Barra da Logoa) that work for beginners. Swell size ranged from 3-10ft while I was there. 5-6 ft was probably the perfect fun size at the beaches, while the occasional point (Silveira) was great up to 10ft.
